Today’s technology may just be the downfall of healthy bodies. Kids have become less active physically because they have more video games, computers, and television shows to keep them entertained. Most kids are now just sitting on the couch and not getting the exercise they need to grow up with a healthy body – becoming couch potatoes. How can we motivate our kids and help them grow up healthy?

Our Tip#1: Involve Kids with Indoor Chores

Keeping our kids involved in household chores is one definite way to make sure that they stay active. Kids can begin to learn responsibility by doing chores, through which we are promoting exercise to our kids as well. Some household chores kids can help with would be doing the dishes, cleaning their rooms, sweep and mop the kitchen and bathroom floors, or even help do some laundry. There is always a way to keep kids active indoors without calling it exercise.

Our Tip#2: Involve Kids with Outdoor Chores

Our kids need to be outdoors when the weather is nice, or even when the weather is a bit chilly. Some outdoor chores kids can help with are mowing the grass, weeding, raking, or even shoveling snow in the winter. Outdoor chores are endless as all parents realize, and our kids can get plenty of exercise doing the things that you might not have time to do.

Our Tip#3: Family Fun Activities

Having some quality family time is another chance to get the family out to enjoy some fun activities and keep kids healthy. Kids are more likely to participate in fun outdoor activities and this way, we can keep our kids very active. They will never suspect that they are exercising as long as it’s a family outing. The family could take a hike, visit fair grounds, walk on the beach, play volleyball or even go skiing.

Our Tip#4 Make it A Fun Game

We know that health and  fitness is important at any age. Kids need exercise, but since the term just makes some kids cringe, you do not have to call it by that name. One good technology is the new Wii which is quite beneficial for exercise, and you won’t even have to beg your kids to play it. If you are going to buy your kids a video game, the Wii is the best one to consider. Wii games can be bowling, golfing, tennis, and boxing. The console also has a fitness video, but chances are that young kids will not enjoy that game as much as others.

There are several things that kids can do to stay active; they just need to have some guidance. Whether it is doing chores, going on a family outing, or playing active video games, make sure your kids get the exercise they need to stay healthy and fit.
